Peter Chaljawski awarded as "Top 40 under 40"
Berlin, November 19, 2021 - Peter Chaljawski, founder and CEO of Berlin Brands Group, has been selected by the business magazine "Capital" as one of the Top 40 under 40.
Since 2007, the business magazine has presented the award in four categories. In each case, 40 personalities from the categories "Enterprise," "Manager," "Politics and Government," and "Society and Science" receive the recognition.
The decisive factor is that the personalities shine through their career paths and their success. This year, after several meetings, the jury decided to award Peter Chaljawski in the category "Enterprise".
He founded Berlin Brands Group, then called Chal-Tec, in 2005 at the age of 19. Initially, he sold event technology and DJ equipment on eBay. The goal was to offer good and beautiful products at a moderate price and to "democratize" them. Brands from the areas of kitchen appliances, garden & living, home electronics and home fitness quickly expanded the portfolio. Started as a pioneer in the direct-to-consumer business, Berlin Brands Group today is a global e-commerce company. The Berlin-based hidden champion currently sells over 3,700 beautiful everyday and trendy products under 56 of its own e-commerce brands - in 28 countries. The company has its own international logistics network.
BBG is one of the few e-commerce companies that has been profitable since its founding. Its 900 employees generated global sales of €334 million in 2020 (2019: €217 million). Since Bain Capital's acquisition of Ardian's minority stake in September 2021, BBG has been one of Europe's unicorns, with a valuation in the billions.
Since December 2020, BBG has been buying international e-commerce brands (sales between 500,000 and 100 million euros). BBG integrates the brands within a short time on its own DTC platform and scales the business. Since the end of 2020, BBG has acquired 42 brands.
